Children's literature is essential for teaching cultural awareness. Books like Welcome to Country by Aunty Joy Murphy and Lisa Kennedy and The Colours of Us by Karen Katz introduce children to Indigenous culture and celebrate diversity, respectively (Murphy & Kennedy, 2019; Katz, 2002). Film and recorded music in education are also engaging ways to explore cultural stories and traditions (ABC Kids, 2023).
Within the early years environment, there is a scope for children to understand the concept of cultural diversity, promote empathy amongst fellow human beings, and foster a mutual feeling of belonging among all children.
